COMMON
Another masterpiece from the 'What Could Possibly Go Wrong?' school of pre-Fall science. They tried to turn sea anemones into a living seismic network, and then the Aleutians decided to have a rather large hiccup. The ensuing M6.5 quake shattered containment and scattered these signal-drunk mutants into the planet's weeping fractures.
Special Ability
◈ Seismic Anticipation
The polyps feel the planet's headache building and begin their lurid light show a solid ten to thirty minutes before the ground remembers how to hate you. It’s a brilliantly uselessly precise warning: you know something terrible is coming, but not where, or how to stop it.
Field Notes
The locals, in their charmingly blunt way, call these things 'fault flowers.' Don't let the name fool you. They're not giving you a bouquet; they're cashing a check the planet is about to write. When a colony lights up the deep tunnels with that sickly-sweet cyan glow, even the most addle-brained scavver knows it’s time to stop looting and start running for their life. It's the most reliable natural early warning system left, and it only works because the damn thing is getting a snack out of your impending structural collapse.
Its ancestral programming—sunlight, water flow—has been exquisitely corrupted. This thing now photosynthesizes pure geological anxiety. Crack one open and you’ll find its nerve net choked with piezoelectric crystals, a living seismograph permanently tuned to the exact 6.5 magnitude tantrum that first ripped its tank open. A perfect, screaming monument to the event that created it.
It doesn't predict disasters; it gets a dinner reservation.
