RARE Another pre-Fall ‘bright idea’: gene-splicing eagles with firebrats and Brevibacillus bacteria to make self-repairing drones. They escaped, because of course they did. Now they’re out there, improving upon humanity’s mistakes with terrifying elegance.

Special Ability

◈ Alkaline Fermentation

It vomits up a corrosive enzymatic cocktail from specialized glands, turning carcasses into chitin soup. Then it drinks the glittery sludge and patches up its armor, healing wounds and shrugging off acid like it’s morning dew.

HabitatThey fancy themselves lords of the rust—perched high on dead skyscrapers and industrial tombs, always near coastlines or alkaline ponds. They want a good view of the buffet: crustacean graveyards, insect boneyards, all you can eat.
DietCarrion, specifically anything with an exoskeleton. It’s not eating for hunger—it’s shopping for materials. It strips the meat, liquefies the chitin, and wears the leftovers like a trophy.
BehaviorSolitary, territorial, and profoundly vain. It'll spend hours cracking open shells with that brutal beak, then fermenting the bits in a throat pouch like some grotesque microbrewery. All so it can plate itself in the bones of its lessers.

Field Notes

Behold: a raptor that gave up on the dignity of the hunt. It’s a flying scrapyard, this one—a miser hoarding shine. It stitches its own glory from the dead, weaving iridescent plates scavenged from crab shells and beetle husks into a coat that’s never quite done. It doesn't hunt unless it’s desperate; why bother, when the world serves up banquets of brittle armor, free for the cracking?

Inside that elegant throat hides a little chemical horror show: a retractable proboscis that drools enzymes like a drunk alchemist’s last experiment. It turns shell into slurry, slurry into splendor. The result? A gleaming, patchwork monstrosity that shimmers in the sun like oil on water—beautiful, and deeply fucking wrong.

Nature’s jeweler, if jewelry were made of dissolved bugs and regret.
