COMMON Conceived in an aquaculture lab as a tidy solution to marine waste, this thing is a modified sunfish, bred for the godforsaken task of turning crustacean shells into industrial goo. Hubris, thy name is chitosan.

Special Ability

◈ Bleaching Miasma

It passively exudes a cloud of enzymes that efficiently dismantles chitin and leaches all color from nearby organic material, making dinner easier to eat and keeping its own disgusting skin relatively clean.

HabitatIt prefers the soupy, nutrient-choked waters where rivers kiss the Rust Meridian's poisoned sea, lingering near the convenient buffets of sunken cities and ship graveyards.
DietIt strains the water column for the tiny, broken-down bits of everything that ever lived, but it has a particular fondness for the crunchy bits—the shattered armor of crabs and insects.
BehaviorIt barely moves, just gently undulates to hold its position in the current like a fleshy kite. It exudes a faint chemical haze that pre-digests the hard shells it loves so much, and it will occasionally rub against a piece of wreckage to scratch its chalky hide.

Field Notes

What a magnificent bastardization of the ocean sunfish. They took a creature already famed for its serene uselessness and engineered it into this pale, bloated filtration barge. It drifts through the murk with its cavernous mouth eternally open, a passive sieve for the chitinous confetti of the fallen world. It's less a swimmer and more a fleshy buoy with a singular, grinding purpose.

You can—and some foolhardy souls do—harvest their pulp for sealants, a process as grim as it is pragmatic. But the real spectacle is the enzyme cloud. It doesn't just digest; it bleaches. Anything organic in its vicinity—bones, wood, your forgotten hopes—gets stripped of color and strength, turning the water into a ghostly tableau of things being slowly, inexorably unmade.

A floating purification system that considers a sunken world its personal buffet.
