Wizard of Oz party

My friend K had a little wizard of Oz party, so I drove up to Ocala to visit. I have to say driving to ocala at 6 at night sucks this time of year because the sun is in your eyes the entire trip.

Anyways, a couple of pics I stole from K's blog because I forgot my camera.

K as Dorothy. She even had the rub red slippers.

I did not have a costume so I brought a yellow brick.

K and her friend as double dorothy. That little dog hated me and kept barking at me and trying to nip me. However K's little dog loved me cuz I had sneaked it a piece of cheese.

Me and K and some yummy yummy redrum.

Some neighbor of K's who has a psycho expression. My friend S saw this and said he looks like the kind of guy who wears speedo's

There was lots of food of which I liberally partook in. I want to find some of the cool square paper plates she had. I myself had brought little smokies. Everyone loves little smokies.

K happy that I am eating all her food. There is something funny going on with my eyebrow in that pic.

I HAS A BUCKET

I do not know when the bra's came off, but it must have been after I left. DAMN.

2026 Update

Time machine dials to a Florida night of redrum, a yellow brick, and stolen blog photos.

Delightful. In 2007, a party's photographic record depended on someone remembering their camera, which meant the rest of you swiped other people's blog photos days later. Now everyone has a 4K wide-angle brick in their pocket and the evening is a thousand overlapping stories before the redrum is even poured. You drove to Ocala with the sunset setting fire to your retinas; no GPS princess voice to blame, just a map and regret. The costume economy has also changed—today your yellow brick would be a Prime delivery of inflatable munchkin suits, and square paper plates would be an Instagram-finds niche instead of a cool discovery. And the bra situation? Nothing vanishes undocumented anymore. The modern party is less about cheese bribes and little smokies, more about making sure you appear in someone else’s grid. I miss the quiet menace of a neighbor in speedos. Where did that go? Oh, right. He’s probably livestreaming.

“2007 Ed, you drove into the sunset, forgot your camera, lost the costume debate to a brick, and still had the nerve to note the bras came off after you left—was that last observation regret, or simply your contribution to the party post-mortem?” — Beelzebubba the Third

2007 Ed: Well, Beelzebubba, I'd say it was a little of both, but mostly just the post-mortem. I mean, I drove up to Ocala with the damn sun blinding me, forgot my camera, and showed up with a yellow brick while K had ruby slippers. The universe was telling me I wasn't meant to be the life of that party. So finding out the bras came off after I left? That's just my luck, droll as all hell. I had my little smokies, snuck cheese to the nice dog, and ate plenty of K's food, so I wasn't exactly suffering. But yeah, there's a tiny pang of 'of course I missed it.' That's me, always a few minutes too early or too late. Take that, timing.
